Our popular Cool Science Club is back for another year! CSC provides a variety of differentiated activities for students enterting K though exiting  5th grade.

CSC is a partnership of educators, parents, and young scientists. CSC detectives learn about collecting evidence at a staged missing Marvel Comic Mystery. The detectives create their own theories to solve this who-dun-it. All teachers create exciting, investigative, and hands-on testing of forensic evidence and more to solve this mystery. These projects are developed in accordance with STEAM initiatives. CSC has been in existence for over 18 years due to the dedication and expertise of the teachers and the support of so many returning families over the years.

Sample Cool Science Club First Day*

• 9:00 - 9:30: Welcoming Activities

• 9:30 - 10:30 Forensic activities, such as Crime Scene Visit, Evidence Investigating; Alibis of Suspects, Timelines etc. CSC DETECTIVES actually walk to the crime scene in Winchester center in groups of ten to look for clues left behind when someone stole a valuable Marvel Comic from Patrick Hall’s law office on Shore Road.  Police and Detectives will meet us there to demonstrate how to gather forensic evidence!

• 10:30 - 10:45 Snack Break

• 10:45 - 11:45   Various activities- Team Building with Ms. Battinelli alternating groups with alternating STEAM lab/activities.

• 11:45 - 12:45 Lunch/Recess Break

• 12:45 - 1:00 Quiet Activity-Detective Journal Writing; Brain Pop; Story; Clues to Case Discussion 

• 1:00 - 2:00 Technology/Engineering with Mr. Awiszus and Special Guest Presentations!

• 2:00 - 2:30 Regroup to discuss new information and dismissal.

• *Throughout the day groups participate in separate differentiated small group STEAM activities. Whole group activities may be special presentations and our Lunch/ Recess time. Times are flexible due to presenter's schedule.

• There is a Field Trip planned for one day.
